Getting Healthy from the Inside Out

Harnessing the Power of Belief, Mindset, and Faith

By Michael Schüler — After 30+ years in the U.S. Army and a stack of diagnoses that said "permanent," Michael discovered something medicine often overlooks: belief changes biology.

Who This Book Is For

"For those who followed the plan, took the supplement, did the workout, said the prayer, trusted the expert—and still wondered why their body didn't get the memo.

"For anyone who was told, "You'll just have to live with it," and quietly thought, "That can't be the whole story."

"For the faithful who love God but wish He came with clearer operating instructions.

"For the skeptics who love science but suspect it may be missing a chapter.

The Core Premise

Health is not determined primarily by information, technology, or even biology. It is shaped—often unconsciously—by belief.

"The body becomes what the mind believes."

Michael Schüler

About Michael

Michael Schüler's story didn't start in a wellness studio—it started with a rucksack and a one-way trip to the United States. He immigrated at eighteen and spent 36 years in the U.S. Army, working his way from Private to Lieutenant Colonel. Along the way, his service took him across Central America, Europe, the Balkans, the Middle East, and Africa—as a helicopter mechanic and door gunner, an Engineer and Intelligence Officer, and eventually a graduate-level Army professor helping shape future leaders. Living and working across cultures gave him a rare, ground-level understanding of how people think, cope, heal, and lead.

When Michael retired from the Army—complete with the standard, Army-issued set of disabilities—he reached a turning point. As he began his doctoral work, he chose not to identify as broken or sidelined. Instead, he intentionally applied the research he was studying to his own life—experimenting, refining, and rebuilding physically, mentally, and spiritually. The insights shared in Healing from the Inside Out are not abstract theories, but practices he has lived, tested, and integrated over time. Today, Michael writes for people who want grounded, culturally aware guidance from someone who has walked the path, not just studied it.

Built on credible research, lived fully—and proven in real life.

Inside the Book

Part I: The Roots of Health — Mind Before Body

What if healing begins inside—and the body follows?

This section lays the foundation for the entire book by reframing health as an inside-out process. You'll explore how belief, perception, and meaning shape biology long before symptoms appear. Drawing from neuroscience, Scripture, and lived experience, Part I challenges the idea that you are a passive recipient of genetics or diagnoses—and introduces a central truth of the book: belief functions as biological instruction.

Part II: The Mind–Body Connection — Science and Scripture

Where modern research and ancient wisdom converge.

Here, the false divide between faith and science dissolves. This section examines how thoughts, emotions, and beliefs directly influence physiology through measurable biological pathways. You'll see how concepts Scripture has long taught—renewal of the mind, guarding the heart, faith producing wholeness—are now being confirmed through psychoneuroimmunology, neuroscience, and epigenetics.

Part III: Perception, Faith, and the Biology of Healing

What you expect shapes what your body experiences.

Part III explores how perception acts as a biological filter—determining what the nervous system amplifies or dampens. Through neuroscience, case studies, and biblical insight, you'll learn how belief, expectation, and attention influence pain, healing, and recovery. Healing begins not when circumstances change, but when perception does.

Part IV: Alignment in Practice — Faith Made Physical

When belief becomes embodied, healing accelerates.

This section moves from theory to application. You'll discover how practices like prayer, breathwork, gratitude, visualization, fasting, and stillness regulate the nervous system and activate repair. These are not rituals of effort, but practices of alignment—where faith becomes physiology and healing becomes a lived experience.

Part V: Lifestyle, Environment, and Sustained Alignment

Healing isn't a moment—it's a way of living.

Part V shows how daily habits, environments, relationships, and rhythms either reinforce health or quietly undermine it. You'll learn how to design a life that supports coherence—mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually—so healing is sustained rather than repeatedly lost.

Part VI: Becoming and Remaining Your Own Healer

The work continues after the breakthrough.

The final section addresses what happens after initial healing—when doubt, setbacks, and old identities resurface. You'll learn how to sustain alignment, guard belief against evidence, and return quickly when life disrupts your rhythm. Healing becomes less about avoiding struggle and more about mastering the return to coherence.

Epilogue: A Lifelong Path of Integration

Health as remembrance, not pursuit.

The book closes by reframing healing as a lifelong partnership between faith, biology, and awareness. Rather than chasing health, you learn to live from wholeness—allowing the body to reflect the beliefs it's been receiving all along.

What Readers Are Saying

Early feedback from those who have begun their own healing journey.

This book is written in a format that guides the reader through a deep journey into understanding the fundamentals of health. It includes real life examples that are both eye opening and inspiring. I didn't know what to expect when I started the book, at the end, it left me asking myself, "how am I viewing my health and wellness?". Unlike the "quick fixes" of today that feed on immediate results for money, tying together perception, faith and biology you understand why we don't do what we ought and do what we shouldn't. People lived longer thousands of years ago without the current technology, pharmacology, and food additives and preservatives. The "blue zones" of today are not just about the food (although a huge part of it), but also community and movement. If you want to deep dive into how to live more fully in this modern age, this is a definite read. A truly inspired work.

One day as I was about to go to my Pilates session at Hotworx, Mike asked me how was doing…and well, I started to cry, and from there he shared his journey that led to me reading his book. The first thing he said was, "change your thoughts". I was like, yeah, yeah, I've tried for 20 years. This book is small but mighty, packed with the start up guide to healing from the inside out. He has researched the world of neuroscience. How thoughts shape and can change our body chemistry, which in turn cascades to health or sickness. It's our choice and this book breaks down the how and why. It makes sense, it is packed with vital information from the world's top experts. Mike has done the hard work and this mighty book encourages you to do the right thing!!!! This book is for everyone and anyone who has a brain that worries, overthinks, fears, rationalizes people pleases, and most of all wants a better life. I've always believed anger, fear, depression, anxiety is our body trying to tell us something, and if we don't address it, then our body will. This book has been good medicine for my soul!! My healing journey has begun, and this book shows you why and how.

I picked this up thinking it would be another typical health book. It's not. This book flips the conversation from "what you should do" to how you're thinking while you're doing it — and that hit. Hard. What I liked most is that the author clearly walks the walk. This isn't theory. It's lived, and you can feel that in how it's written. A lot of it actually aligned with things I've seen in my own life, especially around mindset, discipline, and how much your internal state drives your outcomes. The biggest takeaway for me: it's not just what's happening to you… it's what you believe about it. And if you're not careful, situations, stress, or even a diagnosis can quietly become identity — and once that happens, everything starts reinforcing it. This book doesn't replace science or medicine. It just adds the piece most people are missing: you're not passive in this — you're participating in it. Favorite Quote: "The body follows the story you repeat most." Overall: Not a quick fix. Not surface-level. Just a really solid reminder that how you think is driving more than you realize. And honestly… I love it.

A well-written, well-researched, and multilayered book that makes a compelling argument, backed up by considerable evidence. It's also easy to digest and very readable. One thing that appealed to me was that his advocacy did not discount the value of science; rather, he argues science is a worthy and valuable augmentation to the mind-body-soul network that has such transformative power over our health. It's both a call to action and a catalyst for deep thinking. Kudos to the author.
